Prominent Afghan scholar and leader, Ayatollah Taqaddusi passed away in Kabul last week. He was 75 years old.
Ayatollah Nour Ahmed Taqaddusi was born in Duray Turkman, Afghanistan, in 1357 AH (1936 CE). He received his early religious education in his hometown and also studied in Kabul for some time under some renowned local scholars. He then proceeded to study in the Islamic seminary of Najaf for 14 years, where he thrived in the tutelage of Ayatollah Sayyid Muhsin al-Hakim and Ayatollah Sayyid Abul Qasim al-Khoei.
Upon completion of his education, he spent several years teaching in both the Islamic seminaries of Najaf and Qom. Thereafter he returned to Afghanistan, where he had been propagating the teachings of Islam and serving the School of Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) for the past several decades. For the past year, Ayatollah Taqaddusi was suffering from numerous health problems. He was transferred to a hospital in Kabul, where he passed away on Saturday, June 11. Funeral prayers for him were led by Ayatollah Mohseni, and amidst a huge crowd of mourners, he was laid to rest in Kabul.
