Ayatollah Ali Saafi Gulpaygani Returns to His Lord
Ayatollah Ali Saafi Gulpaygani passed away in Iran on Monday, January 4. He was the brother of the eminent Marja Taqleed (religious authority) Grand Ayatollah Lutfullah Saafi Gulpaygani.
Esteemed scholar and teacher in the Islamic seminary of Qom, Ayatollah Ali Saafi Gulpaygani passed away in Iran on Monday, January 4. He was the brother of the eminent Marja Taqleed (religious authority) Grand Ayatollah Lutfullah Saafi Gulpaygani.
Ayatollah Ali Saafi Gulpaygani was born in the Iranian city of Gulpaygaan in 1911. He was the son of Shaikh Muhammad Jawad Saafi Gulpaygani, under whose tutelage he received his early religious education. At the age of 18, he moved to the holy city of Qom, where he studied under such prominent scholars as Ayatollah Muhammad Hussain Burujardi, Ayatollah Muhammad Hujjat Kohkamri, Ayatollah Muhammad Hamadani, and Imam Khomeini.
Ayatollah Gulpaygani spent decades teaching and researching in the Qom seminary. In addition to his contributions to jurisprudence, he was considered a leading authority on Arabic and Farsi grammar and literature.
Funeral prayers for him were led by Ayatollah Lutfullah Saafi Gulpaygani, and he was laid to rest in his hometown of Gulpaygaan.
