The Power of Man’s Will
One still seeks comfort from what’s between
The book, wisdom that exudes from its walls
Untouched, lost, forgotten and unseen
Words that amaze, mesmerize and enthrall
Son of Adam sin he craves
While the sea seeks not of thrill
Yet momentum gave it waves
Like the power of man’s will
O’ Lord,
I wish I could control my desires and all my hopes and whims
And direct my prostration to you from all my heart and limbs
No boat has ever wished to sink
Yet here we are wet and drenched
Collapsing, breathless on the brink
But I thought sin would quench?
O’ Lord,
I wish I could guide my sails and float into your path
Sometimes this earthly flesh dear Lord only heeds your wrath
Simply routine
Sin is taken so shamelessly in our stride
We grow it vast, and plough it clean
And re-grow and plough again in pride
O’ Lord,
I wish I could grow your love and harvest it with care
But at times this earthly flesh dear Lord simply cannot bare
The tongue allures with the softest of words
Yet that same tongue sternly berates
A falcon one day, a dove another
Hypocrisy, our soul it desecrates
O’ Lord,
I wish I could control this tongue and the things it has to say
Sometimes this earthly flesh dear Lord so much gets in the way
Who deserves a thousand burns from the sun?
Because the devil has written his fate
A fate in which he cannot run
Only to suffocate
O’ Lord,
I wish I could rewrite my life and all the things I’ve done
Every word I’ve murmured, every sentence I’ve begun
One still seeks comfort from what’s between
The book, wisdom that exudes from its walls
Untouched, lost, forgotten and unseen
Words that amaze, mesmerize and enthrall
O’ Lord,
I wish I could take in your book and cover it with my soul
Sometimes this earthly flesh dear Lord so much loses control
In that darkness one awakens
To see a tiny ray of light
A warmth of glow that beckons
And dispels away the night
Lord,
I wish I could not stray away from your boundless gracious love
Sometimes this earthly flesh dear Lord thinks he’s got enough
Son of Adam’s sin lead him to the grave
While the sea went back to still
He became his own mans slave
Through the power of man’s will.
O’ Lord,
I wish if I see another morning, another chance you give
To help me shed this human flesh, and for You I only live
