The Days of the Black Flag are Nearing

When the soul rises to the sound of silence,

When the spirit pulsates at the rhythm of tears,

Listen.

When mornings are met each time, with a growing unease

When nights are restless, when fragrances dissipate,

Close your eyes.

When smiles start to fade, when eyes start shine,

When voices are lowered, when whispers start to fade,

In the air.

When mothers see their sons, and pray for those who lost theirs,

When fathers hug their daughters, and wait a little longer,

In silence.

When brothers see each other remembering their youths,

And turn back one last time, when their paths are about to part,

One last time.

When the blowing wind whispers cries of an orphaned daughter

When subtle cracking branches carry the sound of a last goodbye,

You will know.

When water becomes ashamed of the one thirst it couldn’t quench

When rain starts to weep remembering the one-day it couldn’t cry,

Remember.

When the sight of a newborn reminds you of a piercing arrow

When the sun starts to shine, yet darkness is about to spread,

You will rise.

When birds become restless, when sadness lodges your eyes

You will know that the days of mourning our heroes are coming,

And you will gather.

You will know that nights spent naming our martyrs are upon us,

You will know that days spent hailing the free ones are coming,

And you will answer.

And if ever, one day, the sight of water brings your heart to tears

You will know for sure, that the days of the black flag are coming.

**

And like roses longing for the spring,

To revolutionize their existence,

You too, will experience love,

And will be brought back to

Life.
