Idols Within

Shatter the idols within.

Are all the idols really gone? Can any come back to life? I know my heart is home to only One now yet my soul struggles fearfully within

Shatter the idols within.Armed with a heavy axe

I’m ready now
One by one
To slay the idols within

These tall sturdy figures
These creations of mine
Placed craftily by Iblees
Hidden in crevices within

Some seem so shiny
Some rooted so deep
Some made of iron
That only faith has softened from within

Each one so lofty
Only violent swings of rejection can bring them down
Making sweat unfurl upon my brow
And my body shake from within

Shattered pieces all around me
Sharp debris cuts through my skin
Head spinning out of control
Heart throbbing hard within

Pangs of pain pierce the emptiness
Sweetly mingled with airy release
Light fills where there once was darkness
Radiating from its righteous throne within

Are all the idols really gone?
Can any come back to life?
I know my heart is home to only One now
Yet my soul struggles fearfully within

Holy Qur’an (29:17): “For ye do worship idols besides God, and ye invent falsehood. The things that ye worship besides God have no power to give you sustenance: then seek ye sustenance from God, serve Him, and be grateful to Him: to Him will be your return.”
