NFL Predictions Last season, the New England Patriots rolled through the regular season. They were the second team in NFL history to go undefeated in the regular season. Well, all the individual and team records the Patriots shattered last season meant nothing. The New York Giants' upset of the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII proved that regular season success is one thing, but postseason success is where legacies are made. Whether the New England Patriots can repeat their regular season success of last season is amongst the many storylines this season. Other storylines include whether Brett Favre's addition to the New York Jets is enough to make the Jets a playoff team. Also how will the Green Bay Packers handle their first season without Brett Favre in nearly fifteen years? Divisional Predictions NFC North: - Detroit Lions: The Lions started off the season 6-2 last season. They seemed to be a lock for the playoffs, but somehow all went wrong, and the Lions went 1-7 in their last eight games. With the dismissal of offensive coordinator Mike Martz, the Lions have vowed to run the ball more. Offensive line seems to be a question, but new offensive coordinator Jim Colleto has instituted more three and five step drop passes into the Lions' offense to protect Jon Kitna.
- Minnesota Vikings
- Green Bay Packers
- Chicago Bears
NFC South: - New Orleans Saints: The Achilles' heel of the Saints in the past couple of seasons has seemed to be their defense. With the addition of linebacker Jonathan Vilma, the drafting of defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, and signing two cornerbacks, the Saints seem to have patched up their holes on defense. The addition of tight end Jeremy Shockey will add more firepower to an already explosive offense. The offseason moves by the Saints may translate to a deep run into the playoffs.
- Carolina Panthers
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Atlanta Falcons
NFC East: - Dallas Cowboys: Last season, the Cowboys seemed a lock for the Super Bowl, but like the Patriots, they were upset by the Giants in the second round of the playoffs. The Cowboys already had a loaded team, but with the addition of cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones and linebacker Zach Thomas, the Cowboys defense has a really good opportunity to be the best defense in the league. As long as the offense can stay healthy, the offense will put up points on a weekly basis.
- Philadelphia Eagles
- New York Giants
- Washington Redskins
NFC West: - Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks have been arguably the most consistent team in the NFC since the year 2000. It seems every season they are a lock to make the playoffs. The Seahawks unexpectedly released the face of their franchise, running back Shaun Alexander. Julius Jones is expected to replace Alexander. With Coach Mike Holmgren retiring after this season, Seahawks players may have an added incentive to give it their all this season.
- Arizona Cardinals
- San Francisco 49ers
- St. Louis Rams
AFC East: - New England Patriots: The Patriots have absolutely owned the AFC East within the past five years. The Patriots dominance of the AFC East will continue this season. No team within the AFC East has an answer for the Patriots' offense. The Patriots defense did take a hit with the loss of cornerback Asante Samuels, who signed with the Eagles.
- New York Jets
- Buffalo Bills
- Miami Dolphins
AFC North: - Cleveland Browns: The Browns were the surprise team of the NFL last season. The Browns barely missed the playoffs, but they will not fall short this season. The addition of wide receiver Donte Stallworth adds more firepower to an offense that was a surprise last season. On defense, the Browns revamped their entire defensive line. The additions of Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams will improve their defense, which was one of the worst defensive units in the league last season.
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Baltimore Ravens
- Cincinnati Bengals
AFC West: - San Diego Chargers: A season ago, the Chargers made a bold move by firing Coach Marty Schottenheimer and hiring Norv Turner. At the begging of last season, it seemed that hiring Turner was a terrible idea, but the Chargers turned their season around. This year the Chargers have been hampered by injuries. The anchor of their defense Shawn Merriman has torn ligaments in his knee and may miss the season. The Chargers play in a relatively weak division which will allow then to win the division, but don't expect them to make a deep playoff run.
- Denver Broncos
- Oakland Raiders
- Kansas City Chiefs
AFC South: - Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars play in the toughest division in football. What separates them from the Indianapolis Colts is that the Colts have been bothered by the injury bug. In the offseason, the Jags gave more help to quarterback David Garrard by signing wide receivers Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson. The Jags have lacked consistent wide receiver production since the retirement of Jimmy Smith. On defense, the addition of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will mean that the Jaguars will be more aggressive and blitz even more.
- Indianapolis Colts
- Tennessee Titans
- Houston Texans
NFC Playoff Teams (Predicted Order): - Dallas Cowboys
- New Orleans Saints
- Seattle Seahawks
- Detroit Lions
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Minnesota Vikings
AFC Playoff Teams (Predicted Order): - New England Patriots
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Cleveland Browns
- San Diego Chargers
- Indianapolis Colts
- New York Jets
Super Bowl Prediction: Dallas Cowboys over Jacksonville Jaguars
